[Goliath wakes with a roar, a little early than last night, but he's STILL adjusting to the time here. The stone slides from his skin and rains across the Keep grounds below. Soon after, you may see the Gargoyle gliding across the sky toward the kitchens for food.

Dinner/breakfast is eaten quietly and flips through the journal. After a moment, he plucks up his quill to write:]

Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day.

[Goliath may have heard it mentioned once or twice among the humans. But as far as he could remember, this was nothing close to the holiday they celebrated. He'll make a note to look this up in the library.]

What exactly is its purpose?

Valentines Day is a day for people to give gifts and such to their family, friends, and lovers. In the human world it's a big corporate thing, something to make money off of.

It's also the date of a massacre of some sort, though I don't know much about that part.

[Wolf doesn't know much history, Goliath, sorry.]

Humans love it; guess it just appeals to all the romantics.

Another stupid human holiday we're supposed to celebrate.

I think to show love to someone you really care about!

[He thinks almost immediately of Demona. And how much he misses her. To finally have her returned to him and then snatched away hurts. It really does.]

Why would humans celebrate a massacre?

[Yeah, they celebrate some weird things but a massacre? That would be like him celebrating the destruction of his entire clan.]

I am not surprised to hear that coming from you.

It's...nice. At least, I think so.

Eh, most people these days don't think about the massacre. They just concentrate on the lovey-dovey aspect and go with it.

The only reason I even know is because my eldest brother liked to drill every mistake humans have made into our heads. So most don't even realize.

So far none of their holidays have gone well here.

Valentine's Day. It always seemed kind of asinine to me, but that may be because people commercialized it so much in my world.

A human tradition where people eat one another's hearts in a declaration of love.

It's kind of a stupid thing if you ask me.

It sounds very nice.

Eh, he was paranoid. Not that I can blame him; humans back home weren't exactly friends to us.

[And they'd killed him and given her her scar, but she won't mention that.]

Humans can be good and bad, just like any other species; I know that from experience.

Still hardly any reason to remain so pessimistic.

[The humans have treated his kind terribly for years. But he still hopes.]

Stay here a few perigees and see if you can still tell me that.

*Sollux may still hold a grudge against humans, but this is more of a grudge against the keep thing.*

I suppose love is a noble thing to celebrate. That is one thing humans and Gargoyles have in common.

Having the affection of another can mean quite a lot.
